The Resurrection Trike
has an interesting history; The Hogfather got a
call from an old biking acquaintance; who knew
that we built and restored Trikes and also knew
we were looking at building an S&S engine trike
with a rear bench seat for 2 – 3 people – to use
with Yetis missus and 2 kids. As it transpired,
a county squire (or someone akin) had expired -
popped his clogs, leaving the executors rifling
through his estate, when they came across a
Harley trike with a rear beach seat, in one of
the many outbuildings. The squires executors
emailed some photos to The Hogfather, where they
said they believed this trike had been valued at
£35k??? – The Hogfather couldn’t see how they
come to this; regardless although covered in
bird crap, rust and cobwebs, we made a decent
offer for it and secured it.
When The
Hogfather recovered the trike the staff didn’t
know whether to laugh or cry - it was in a bad
state, not much like the photos; bits of engine
hanging out / exposed, clutch broken, chrome,
wiring etc. all well beyond redemption – a total
restoration project was required.
The trike was
stripped frame powered coated, semi stripped the
engine, but checked it all over, made and sent
parts for chroming, whilst polishing, painting
or powder costing the rest of items ready for
rebuild – finally everything was rebuilt with
the usual Hogfather TLC, with new loom, switch
gear, etc. etc. and original paint job
renovated, which is stunning.
What we have
found in way of history, leading up to it being
re-discovered at the expired and dead squires’
outbuildings is, the bike was originally a 1340
FX evo, which was tricked up by Battistini, and
then the bike was professionally converted to a
trike by Trike design of South Wales. What we
can tell you now is that the trike has the
magnificent flame paint job renovated, on tank,
fenders, side panels and air scoop. It has a
1600cc S&S after market evo engine with S&S
carburettor and Ness Billet casings all over it.
The back end is a fantastic 2 – 3 seater with
independent suspension and a differential –
thank Christ. The finished product is one to be
proud of the photos say it much better than we
can – The Hogfather owner, is fairly reluctant
to sell, as this ground up restoration has taken
so many parts and so much time, he’s almost
given up what it owes The Hogfather – more than
we advertising it at, but he says if he saw the
money, he’d be tempted and would probably still
make a loss at that.
